Forged Sterling Silver Onyx Brooch and Pendant
I love how versatile this sterling silver onyx brooch/pendant is. It can be worn vertically, diagonally or horizontally. It looks great on the lapel of a jacket. A lovely shawl pin. I also added a bail on the back of the brooch so you can wear it as a pendant. I am proud of the heirloom quality this modern brooch possesses. A unique gift for women.

Measurements:
2.5" x .75" (63.5mmx20mm).
Black Onyx 14 x 10mm.
Process:
This piece is hand forged by me in my home studio from 3mm square silver stock. Forging starts with a square rod of silver which must be annealed (the metal is heated to soften it), then pickled (put in a mild acidic bath to clean it), and then hand forged (hammered on an anvil). The forging process compresses the molecular structure of the metal (hardening it), therefore, each piece must be annealed, pickled, and forged numerous times before the final shape is realized. I like forging silver, I like watching the movement of the metal, I like the rhythm of the hammer. I enjoy moving the metal into tapering lines and graceful curves. I am also constantly amazed by the fact that an image/idea that begins in my mind is transformed into a physical reality.
